I have this car sans a top and plus 500 lbs should I trade?

500 lb? I’m well aware that E46 convertibles aren’t lightweight, but is it really that much?
I wouldn't trade if I was you, personally. Top down is best!

I’ve always been a fan of coupes and maybe mildly disdainful of convertibles. The exception is when I’m actually in a convertible with the top down, where despite myself, I’ll Inevitably end up thinking “man....this is pretty damn nice”

I will probably never own another convertible, def not a 4 seater, but just like you say “man....this is pretty damn nice”.
I will however own an E46 coupe at some point...

If it isn’t 500lbs it’s close. The coupe is noticeably quicker and a lot tighter through turns.
I tell myself and everyone else lies all of the time. That car isn’t going anywhere.

That’s the move. Right now I can’t do it without losing a car. So if the perfect PY, LSB, TV E46M3 pops up...BYE Alltrack.

Huge fan of this color, great looking car and will fetch a nice price no doubt. I could certainly use a back seat but this would be a money pit in my hands.

Yeah I mean I’ve got more than I’d like to admit into the one I have over 13 years. Another would be no different especially upon delivery. No way you’re getting out of a “once over” scenario for less than $1500 on a “new to you” M3.

Ohlins coilover setup, port over the CSL header, Euro Section 1 and PFC brake pads from t he Z4M... that would just be the tip of the iceberg.
Would be rewarding to get into a car with paint correction and ceramic coating done that my car needs (~$2K ) but at 89K miles it is sitting in the same place as my engine where a VANOS and rod bearing overhaul is on deck soon.

I’ve always been pro-roof.
Will be welcome at many more track days. =)

Ohlins is the hot shit. I never went the mod route on the M3 because it is a ragtop. So I have kept it factory fresh, replacing any interior panel that received so much as a fingernail scratch.
Only a set of wheels and a UUC short throw shifter with the selector rod, and a weighted knob from the ZCP cars.

Can’t imagine it’s that much. That’s the penalty on the E93 hard top convertible.

Same. Will make an exception for an ND Miata some day (or a 718 Spyder if some distant relative leaves me a fortune).

Yeah mine has the little 2.5 liter six, so I believe BMW put in a really short rear gear to help offset the weight. 80 mph is all of 4000 rpm.

I would have guessed 300 lb, but I don’t really know.
You certainly feel it in my 170 hp version.

Appears to be 366 lbs. Lotsa extra bracing needed underneath.

That is extreme dedication, I am much weaker! The ZCP knob is perfect, I removed my UUC shifter after it broke (free replacement, sold it). I honestly do not miss it.
I dialed back the mods but it still is far from factory. Eventuri intake, CSL headers, euro section 1, stromung mufflers, rogue trans & engine mounts, KW CS coilovers, apex wheels. Its moving towards an CSL / OEM+ style ethos.

Yea I heard that the auto solutions is the one to get. It’s horrible when it’s cold after that its fine.

Don’t get me wrong, when I was driving the car hard it was epic - bolt action rifle. Just wasn’t going to toss it back in once it was out.

Agree. Did that job once, will avoid it in the future.
